Sydney Masur
Welcome to my fundraising page! I'm taking on the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred's Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can to support groundbreaking cancer research at MSK, and your donation will give me a boost as I train for my race.
I am participating in the TCS NYC Marathon to support Memorial Sloan Kettering because it represents a cause that is personal to my family and to millions of others. At just 39 years old, my mom, Shannon Masur, was diagnosed with Stage 3A colon cancer in 2011. She underwent both surgery and chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Without the exceptional care she received at MSK (and my mom's kick a** attitude), our family's story could have looked very different.
Even after my mom's diagnosis and treatment, MSK has continued to care for my family year after year. My mom has Lynch syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that significantly increases the lifetime risk of developing certain cancers. Lynch syndrome is an inherited genetic condition affecting about 1 in 300 people. It significantly raises the lifetime risk of developing colorectal, uterine (endometrial), ovarian, and other cancers, often at a young age. Both my sister, Jess, and I inherited the gene, making regular surveillance essential to our health and well-being. From providing us with yearly colonoscopies (I just had my seventh this year!) to always having doctors available to answer our questions and help us navigate the future, MSK has been a great source of care and support for our family.
I will also be running in memory of my uncle, Chris Loines, who passed away from Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) cancer in 2021. He was treated at MSK and also had Lynch syndrome. My uncle was an incredible athlete who loved pushing his limits through marathon running. Watching him cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013 is a memory I will always value. I know his courage, determination, and fearlessness will stay with me in every part of this race.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to combine my love of running with the chance to support an organization that has had such a profound impact on my family and on the lives of so many others. We greatly appreciate any donation you are able to make. 100% of the funds I raise will go directly into MSK labs, where doctors and scientists have expertise in more than 400 types of cancer and work every day to find new cures. If you’re unable to donate, we are equally grateful for your support in spreading awareness!
Thank you for your generosity!
