Welcome to my fundraising page! I’m taking on the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can to support groundbreaking cancer research at MSK, and your donation will give me a boost as I train for my race.

I am not new to the marathon. I have run ten of them, including Boston — races that have tested my limits and taught me what I am made of. But these races I ran mostly for myself, for the joy, the accomplishment, to test my personal limits. Fred's Team represents something different and something more: the chance to transform miles into meaning, and to run not just with my legs but with my heart.

The race this year is about more than running. It is about honoring those who we have lost, remembering those whose life was cut short by cancer. Both my uncle Jody Walker and my grandfather Eric Prenshaw (who shares my namesake) lost their lives in their 60's due to lung cancer. Jody was someone who had a heart of gold, someone who was filled with love for his family, friends, and anyone who had a need. He lost his life to lung cancer in 2023. After he died, he left a legacy of helping others, so much so, that the Jody Walker "Helping Hands Fund" was established in Greeneville, TN at Trinity UMC to help anyone in the community who might need extra help. I am inspired by his example and his caring heart for others.

I also run to honor my grandfather Eric "Dick" Prenshaw. He died when I was in 7th grade. Grandad held a lifelong love of music, even writing me music to celebrate my birthday when I was young, and playing it on the piano with one hand while he held me as a baby in his other arm. I am thankful he shared with me the gift of music. And when I turn on my headphones and crank up the tunes for my training runs and races, I will think of him.

And this journey is also inspired by my wife's aunt Lynn. I met Lynn in 2011 when she attended our wedding. I can still remember her smile as she lit up the dance floor, and I could see she was truly the life of the party. Lynn was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer in the spring of 2013. Then on July 23, 2014 she passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Our entire family grieved her passing and the years that were stolen by this terrible disease.

In the years since her passing, my cousins Kevin and Kristin--Lynn’s children--have each run the New York City Marathon with Fred's Team, raising funds and awareness in their mother's honor. Seeing them run in her honor has been incredibly inspiring and has shown me that running can have a purpose beyond fitness and personal bests. Running can help lift up the stories and memories of our loved ones who we carry with us.

To be able to do this at the New York Marathon would be all the more inspiring. To be honest, I have never raised money through running before. But I believe that makes this opportunity all the more meaningful. Fred's Team is giving me a chance to grow beyond the athlete I have been and become the advocate I want to be.

Running has given me so much over the years: discipline, resilience, perspective, and joy. It is time I gave some of that back. The least I can do is run 26.2 miles, raise as much money as I possibly can for the researchers and doctors who are fighting this terrible disease. \
