Austin Somers
Welcome to my fundraising page!
I am so excited to share that I will be running the NYC marathon this November on behalf of Fred’s Team, Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center's official running program, to raise money for colon cancer research.
I will be doing this in honor of my father, Hunter Reed, who was diagnosed in 2017 at the age of 45 with a rare form of colon cancer, and who was a patient at MSK until 2021.
My dad was an avid athlete who trained relentlessly throughout his cancer treatment. His paritcular form of cancer currently has a median life expectancy of under a year, but no doubt due to this, he was able to fight it for over four years. As a result, getting to do something as special as running the marathon in his honor while raising money for such an important cause feels meant to be.
In order to run, I have committed to MSK's $6,500 fundraising level, but set my goal at $6,617 in honor of my dad's birthday (June 17th). Every single dollar we raise will go directly into MSK labs and to doctors working to fight colon cancer.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
