Emily Bermudez
Thanks for clicking on my fundraising link! I'm running the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). I'm raising money for Fred's Team in honor of my grandma—the baddest chick to ever to do it—Maureen Bermudez, who is currently receiving treatment for lung cancer at MSK. She sings the praises of her MSK care team—their kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness. She expresses immense gratitude for MSK at every opportunity.
I'm fundraising and running the marathon for Fred's Team so I can express my own immense gratitude for MSK. Because of the research they do and the care they provide, I get to hear my grandma beam "I'm still here!" every time she answers the phone, and tell me she's proud of me and loves me. That part never gets old.
I grew up watching the New York City Marathon with my mom, and it's been a dream ever since I realized you could get a car magnet after you finish so everyone knows you did something hard. Of course when this idea first planted its roots, it didn't matter to me that I was consistently the last girl on the track at every Sunday CYO track meet, cheering for my best friend while she lapped me, and then getting my own awkward pitiful applause while I trotted over the line for the mile. I've become more humble with age, so I probably won't get a car magnet, but I've held onto the habit of setting big goals, running my own race, and just generally being happy to be there.
I am so excited and so nervous to do this, but I'm looking forward to dragging my friends along on some runs, getting sick of pre-run cookies and cream Pop Tarts, and hearing my grandma say she's proud of me on November 1.
Thank you so much for donating, and for reading this far! 100% of this fundraising will go directly to lung cancer research in MSK labs, where doctors and scientists work every day to find new cures.
