Over 45 years ago, Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope. To me, Terry's story meant courage, perseverance, hope, putting others above self -- being Canadian.

This year, I'm moving in the Terry Fox Run with my daughter to honour my Dad's fight against cancer. While we are so grateful that he is a survivor, other families are not so fortunate.

I'll never forget the profound feeling that came over me standing underneath Terry's statue at the national historic monument in Thunder Bay overlooking Lake Superior when I drove across the country from Vancouver to Toronto, and again years later at the statue commemorating the start of his journey in St John's harbour, Newfoundland. What a life Terry lived, may it be a lesson for us all.

“How many people do something they really believe in? I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible, if you try; dreams are made, if people try. When I started this run, I said that if we all gave one dollar, we’d have $22 million for cancer research, and I don’t care man, there’s no reason that isn’t possible. No reason.
