Lisa North
In 1980, Terry Fox set out to run across Canada by running a marathon distance every single day in an effort to raise money and awareness for cancer research. As a 10-year old, I was glued to Terry's progress, and cut out every newspaper article I could find about his Marathon of Hope.
Terry completed 143 days/3339 miles before having to stop, as cancer spread to his lungs. Terry passed away the following June, but he created a legacy, and his dream was to have his mission continue.
I participated in many community Terry Fox Runs in the 80's & 90's, fundraising for the Terry Fox Foundation. My mother (who is in her 80's) has participated every single year for the past 46 years.
Ever since moving to the US in the late 90's, I haven't had the opportunity to participate in an annual run/fundraiser. I've always wanted to organize an international event here, and this year the opportunity presented itself. So we are hosting and participating in New Hamphire's first Terry Fox Fun Run/Walk at Great North Aleworks on Sunday, October 25th. I'm very excited and honored to have Terry's brother, Fred Fox attending our event.
If you can, we'd love to participate. If you aren't able to participate, please consider a donation towards my personal fundraising goal.
All donations will help the Terry Fox Foundation fund critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). MSK scientists and doctors drive remarkable progress for people everywhere facing the disease.
Thank you for your support!
