In Loving Memory of Sonya

Sonya passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2023 following a colectomy on June 20, 2023. In weeks prior, Sonya underwent a colonoscopy, which led to the discovery of several polyps and a cecal mass. Sonya's doctors recommended the surgery to remove the mass and have it undergo a biopsy. Sonya never recovered from her surgery and her life was tragically lost. 

Sonya's love and light will continue to shine on through our support of Colorectal Cancer research at MSK. Sonya lived a life of compassion and led by example. She was never afraid to do the right thing and never too busy to help those in need. Sonya made countless sacrifices for others throughout her lifetime, and was always there to support others - whether you were a friend, family member or a stranger. In the spirit of everything she embodied, hopefully we can continue to make positive impacts for others. May we prevent the loss of another beautiful soul such as hers, and ensure no other families have to endure the loss of a loved one to CRC.

Sonya was a loving Mother, Daughter, Aunt, Niece, Godmother, Nona and friend. Let us help her continue to make a positive and lasting impact on this world. Thank you for your support and for helping her legacy live on. The world lost an angel but her spirit lives on with all of us.
