One of Wyatt’s dying wishes was to support research efforts to identify and intervene in esophagogastric cancer at the earliest stages of the disease. Such research is critical because esophagogastric cancer is often asymptomatic until it has reached advanced stages, at which point it is difficult to treat. This research fund directly supports research in this area conducted by Dr. Steven Maron at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Dr. Maron’s research aims to understand whether dental enamel erosion - a possible marker of acid-induced inflammation of the esophagus and stomach that can give rise to cancer - can be used to detect early-stage esophagogastric cancer.
