My Story

On September 6th, 2023 I took a trip to the Mount Sinai emergency room due to the combination of a sore throat, bruises on my legs, a fever, and an unsettling blood test result. Little did I anticipate that this visit would unravel into a life-altering moment. When the doctor delivered the news my body went numb. The words “acute myeloid leukemia” were foreign to me and I was in denial, but suddenly, the reality hit and I realized that I had cancer, and I was in for a tough journey ahead.

Navigating my diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia led me to the remarkable doors of Memorial Sloan Kettering, where the expertise of the leukemia team became a beacon of hope in my cancer journey. From the moment I entered the facility, the compassion and dedication of the nurses and doctors were evident. Battling AML was not easy. The chemo brought on a bunch of tough times - feeling sick, tired, and dealing with uncertainty. The MSK team, though, stuck by me, adjusting the treatment plan to make things more manageable. It turned out a bone marrow transplant was needed for a better shot at beating the leukemia. Finding a donor was nerve-wracking, but the MSK team worked hard on it. The transplant was a big deal, a chance at a fresh start. Through all the ups and downs, the nurses and doctors at MSK became not just my medical team but a crucial part of my journey to get better.

I am running a half marathon on April 28th to raise money for Leukemia research and care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). If it weren't for MSK’s research, I would not be in the position I am in today to run with friends and family. Running has always been a passion of mine and I am excited to get back to doing the things I love with the people I love. 

With expertise in over 400 cancer types and nearly 2,000 clinical trials underway at a given time, MSK is making a massive difference in the lives of people everywhere with cancer. MSK physician-scientists are committed to discovering new ways to prevent, detect, treat, and cure all forms of the disease. ​
