In Memory of Anastasia Kourmpetis
Anastasia Kourmpetis died on August 19th, 2020. She was a beloved and dynamic matriarch who was devoted to her family.
She was born in Russia on June 10th 1926, to Haralambos Kostopoulos and Anatoli Tohparidi. During her time in Russia and Greece, she experienced a series of upheavals, including war and dictatorship. She married Stavros Kourmpetis and together, they moved to New York in the 1960s, where they worked tirelessly to provide better opportunities for their children and grandchildren.
Her home was a hub of activity where friends and family were always welcome -- and always fed! Nagia was a master baker and an adventurous chef. Her spanakopita was coveted by anyone who had the pleasure of tasting it, but she also enjoyed culinary experimentation --and YouTube research-- up to the very end of her life. As a skilled and resourceful seamstress, she often sewed outfits for herself and her family. She is survived by her three children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandaughter, who will miss her generous, courageous, and creative spirit.
