Hi, I'm Britney!
Running with Fred's Team is a natural continuation of that work. I want to put in the training, raise meaningful funds, and help advance MSK's goal of ending cancer for life, for my grandmother and for everyone facing what she faced.
My connection to Sloan Kettering's mission is both personal and professional. In 2023, my grandmother battled osteosarcoma, which kept recurring. Watching someone who raised you face a cancer like that changes you. It strips away any abstraction around the word and makes it very immediate and very human. That period was singular for me because I was living it from both sides. At around the same time, I was working at MSKCC as a software engineer, building software to support cancer research.
In some ways, while sitting behind a computer screen, the work felt separated from the patients my research was intended to help. Watching my grandmother's fight up close reframed it. It gave me a lasting respect for the researchers, clinicians, and staff who dedicate their lives to giving patients more time, better treatments, and real reasons to hope. I saw how much painstaking effort goes into research and patient care. A single step forward in the field can represent years of work by dozens of people, but that single step can mean a different outcome for a real patient and their family.
