About Mike Drop

Mike Zak was the kind of person who never backed down from a challenge. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and teammate, Mike lived with an incredible intensity and determination that inspired everyone around him.

In December 2021, Mike was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer. What followed was a four-and-a-half-year fight that tested him in ways no one should ever have to experience. Through surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, clinical trials, setbacks, and countless unknowns, Mike continued to show up with grit, humor, optimism, and an unwavering belief in fighting for more time with the people he loved most.

Mike passed away in June 2026, but his warrior mentality lives on in all of us.

We run for Mike. We run because he taught us what it means to keep moving forward even when the road is impossibly hard (a two-time NYC Marathon Finisher as a Stage IV cancer patient). We run for his children, Mikey, Blair, and Scottie, so they will always know how fiercely their dad fought for them. We run for the families facing cancer today who need more treatment options, more hope, and more time.

And we are Mike Drop because Mike never went down without a fight and neither will we.
